 Emmett spent much of this summer visiting his aquatic pals – both mammals and fishies – at zoos, aquariums and museums. He especially liked tickling his pet sea lion at the Prospect Park zoo. Also, we enjoyed singing and playing word games together. |

 I love the seals who live year-round in Manhattan's East River Esplanade. It doesn't matter that they never move or make a sound themselves. There are hidden water spouts among them, and in the hot summer months when the spray starts up suddenly, children playing with the seals jump and scream in surprise and delight. Those movements and sounds stay with the seals throughout the other seasons. |
 No, not that kind of grass. I'm talkin' 'bout exotic, decorative grasses that have become the city's major form of landscaping. There are great grasses in Central Park besides the plain vanilla lawn type, but the new, fantastic grasses are on the waterfront walkways, particularly along the Hudson River. |

So I reminisced from the 59th Street Bridge about the boat I had on Boston Harbor back in the '60s – riding up and down the 20-foot rollers to the 12-mile-out spot where the big cod fish lurked. |
